This past spring, Sieda Community Action staff in Appanoose County took part in the Step Into Spring challenge sponsored by Mercy Medical Center – Centerville and Hy-Vee. Step Into Spring was part of a larger Appanoose County initiative to promote health and wellness as they seek to become the healthiest county in Iowa.

The initiative challenged Appanoose county citizens to walk a combined 1,000,000 minutes in two months. Thirty-six teams from local schools and businesses competed to find out who could walk the most minutes.

At the end, our Sieda staff in Appanoose County out-walked the competition, and the “Sieda Steppers” team strode their way to victory, winning this year’s Step Into Spring challenge! The champs received the grand prize, a cookout provided by Hy-Vee, on June 10th.

The team took a celebratory photo to mark the occasion.
