Our Parents as Teachers (PAT) staff in Appanoose County recently held the annual Roll and Read event in Centerville. The Roll & Read consisted of a one-mile walk and stroller roll for the entire family with three “reading stations” along the way.

The first Roll and Read – Powered by Parents as Teachers was an international event held on September 20, 2014. The event, which promoted early literacy and healthy families, was held in conjunction with National Parents as Teachers 30th Anniversary.  Sieda Appanoose County Parents as Teachers has continued the event as an annual event to promote the value of early learning in their community. This is the third year that families have “rolled” their strollers around the Centerville square to listen to stories read by community members. This year’s Roll and Read community readers were:

Libby Sebolt, 2016 Miss Pancake Day

Jan Spurgeon, Centerville City Council

Captain Ryan Moore, Centerville Fire Department

Officer Curtis Ross, Centerville Police Department

Each child received a free book at the end of the event.
