Thanksgiving is the time of year to give thanks and express gratitude. Gratitude changes the way we interact with the world and promotes the thoughts and behaviors that are supportive of addiction recovery. Here are a few tips to encourage an attitude of gratitude this holiday season:
- Rather than dwelling on the things that addiction has taken away, think about the opportunities that recovery has opened up.
- Relax and take the time to concentrate on what makes life great.
- Do something for someone else. In active addiction people are not focused on others. Recovery empowers people to be a positive influence in someone else’s life.
The Sieda Behavioral Health and Treatment Services team is grateful to be able to help people change their lives and to support recovery. Happy Thanksgiving.
