Sieda Family Support Services programs are observing National Child Abuse Awareness Month throughout April.
In observance of Child Abuse Awareness Month, programs are being held across our service region in support of raising awareness. Here are a few ways you can get involved:
- Sieda Family Support programs in Appanoose County will be participating in the Healthy Kids Fair on April 8th at Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville.
- Sieda Parents as Teachers staff will be at the SE Iowa Early Childhood Summit to present activities and information on April 29.
- Appanoose County will be holding several activities to raise support for programs, including Pizza Hut fundraiser (Aprill 11), Silent Donation Auction at the Healthy Kids Fair (April 8), and Hy-Vee Round Up all month long.
Child abuse can happen to any child throughout Iowa, no matter their family background. Multiple risk factors among parents, such as stress, isolation, substance abuse, intergenerational trauma, and similar factors, are typically present in a household where a child is being abused or neglected. The trauma that occurs during childhood can strongly affect the children throughout their lifetime.
If you suspect the consistent mistreatment of a child, take action by calling the Iowa Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-362-2178 or the national hotline at 1.800.4.A.CHILD .
