Our Head Start nurse, Katie, has an update on our health screenings for the end of the school year – and she has some fantastic result to report this year!

It is hard to believe that we are coming to the closing of the 2016-2017 school year. It truly has flown by fast, and has been a year of positive change and growth amongst all of our wonderful preschool students. Such a blessing to see them becoming more confident in themselves and their unique, one-of-a-kind characteristics and personal strengths.

The school year has continued to be filled with many health screenings. I am happy to report that vision and hearing screenings are completed for all students at our sites. We have also finished hemoglobin/hematocrit and lead screenings at all of our sites; and had a remarkably low percentage of students with high lead levels.

Dental/fluoride first round and second round applications are finished at all of our sites, and are finishing this month third round applications at all of our sites. Current dental exam rates have improved exponentially this year; reporting that 82% of students have had a dental exam by a licensed dental health provider during the 2016-2017 school year, as compared to a rate of less than 50% during the 2014-2015 school year!
