Ship Shape Attendance Rate

Van Buren Douds Sieda Head Start won the first ever “Ship Shape Attendance Rate” for December 2017. The ten Sieda Head Starts in our seven county service area are starting an attendance rate campaign.

Sieda Head Start is a free preschool experience for children 3-5 years of age. It is important to the Sieda Head Starts to not only meet the children’s educational, nutritional, social, mental, and literacy needs but to build a strong foundation of school readiness. School attendance is an important part of preparing the children for a successful school life.

To strengthen and encourage the children in our Head Start classrooms the “Ship Shape Attendance Rate” award was created by Head Start Coordinator Sara Whitlow. Each month they will look at the attendance of the classrooms and award the class with the highest rate. “There will be a monthly traveling trophy and special items/events for the winning classroom,” Sara shared. The items and events will change each month to keep the children excited.

The first Head Start class rewarded was Van Buren Douds with a 96% attendance rate for the month of December. The teachers Brandi Stevens and Trina Simmons received a special certificate and items for their classroom. The Douds class will be able to enjoy a new pirate book to keep in their classroom, pirate hats for each child, and a pirate mask to color and cut out.

Great job Douds Head Start. Congratulations from all of us!
