Several of the counties Sieda serves have had their resource fairs for families back to school and health needs. We were pleased to be able to participate in many of the events that support and encourage the families in our communities. There are still more events to come in Appanoose, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, and Wapello counties.
Van Buren County had the Safe & Healthy Kids Fair for the families of pre-kindergarten to twelfth graders. Several of our programs were able to participate in providing information and resources to the 233 children and 135 adults that attended the fair. Kitty Bogle, our Prevention and Substance Abuse Educator provided information and education for the families. Head Start Supervisor for Van Buren County, Morgan Small, was available for families interested in 3 – 4-year-old preschool enrollment. Regina Shultz helped at the CPPC booth, making sure each child there received a book to take home. Regina runs Sieda Seeds of Hope and works at the Sieda Van Buren Resource Center to provide utility assistance and a large variety of other household needs.
Davis County had the Back To School Resource Fair at the Mutchler Community Center for children from kindergarten to sixth grade. We were glad to have staff from several of our programs come to the fair. Lisa McConnell was able to provide resources as part of Sieda’s Tobacco Prevention. Ona Miller-Robertson and Dianna Hendee were able to share more on Family Development and Self Sufficiency (FaDSS) program. We had 288 people stop by our table alone during the fair.
Thank you, sponsors, for letting us be a part of such great family and community building events.
Sieda Community Action and additional groups in the counties we serve will be holding a variety of back to school resource events.
