Thanks to our partnerships with businesses, individuals, and organizations, Sieda Community Action was able to provide school supplies to more than 500 students in three Southeast Iowa counties. The School Supply Program Distributions in Appanoose, Jefferson, and Wapello counties help provide supplies and backpacks for students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade at no cost to the caretakers. The school supplies are to help low-income families with the concerns of preparing their children for school. To qualify for school supplies, clients must have been income eligible or approved for energy assistance (LIHEAP). The school supplies were distributed at our Sieda offices and Centerville’s Lakeview Elementary School.
We’re very happy to also be able to support and participate with Sieda’s many programs in the other community-building events in our area. There were a number of events that helped prepare children and families for school; Davis County Back To School Resource Fair, Van Buren County Safe & Healthy Kids Fair, Mahaska County Back-To-School Fair, and events in Lucas and Wayne County. The Sieda programs that participate were Family Development and Self Sufficiency (FaDSS), Head Start, Parents as Teachers, Prevention and Substance Abuse Education, Resource Center Community Action Program (CAP) Specialists, Sieda Seeds of Hope, and Tobacco Prevention.
