Sieda Tobacco Prevention Specialist with Sieda Behavioral Health and Treatment Services has shared a new Tobacco sales law. As of December 20, 2019, new federal legislation was signed by President Trump. This raises the age for sales of tobacco products from age 18 to 21 under federal law. This new federal legislation bars retailers from selling tobacco products, including Cigarettes, Cigars, and E-cigarettes to anyone under age 21.
This will help protect youth from nicotine addiction and the deadly effects of tobacco use. The FDA is responsible for regulating all tobacco products. This includes Cigarettes, E-cigarettes, Cigars, and Hookah tobacco. Please see the following link to the Federal Food and Drug Administration Website regarding this law change: https://www.fda.gov/tobacco-products/compliance-enforcement-training/retail-sales-tobacco-products.
If you or a loved one is experiencing problems with tobacco please contact Sieda Tobacco Prevention at 641-683-6747.
