Lisa, Tobacco Prevention Specialist with Sieda Behavioral Health and Treatment Services, attended the first virtual ISTEP Summit that was held on September 10, 2020. ISTEP (Iowa Students for Tobacco Education and Prevention) is Iowa’s youth-led tobacco prevention movement. Throughout the year, each chapter organizes its own activities, then once a year, ISTEP students from all across Iowa get together for the ISTEP summit.

Moreover, they meet other chapter members, share ideas & success stories, and discover even more ways to take action against tobacco. All Iowa youth who are in grades 7-12 are invited to attend, free of cost. ISTEP Executive Council members plan and lead the summit and bring great guest presenters from all over the country. ISTEP educates other students, community leaders, and loved ones by bringing light to the true, unfiltered facts on the dangers of tobacco and vaping. These youth are stepping-up & speaking out to promote change, and are doing an amazing job!

ISTEP Mission:

  • Change the social attitude toward all tobacco use
  • Raise awareness through education
  • Counter-market the tobacco industry’s efforts
  • Inspire and support cessation among tobacco users
  • Protect everyone from secondhand smoke
