LIHEAP (Heating Assistance) applications for households with at least one person that is elderly (60+) or disabled will begin Thursday, October 1st. Please call to set up a visit with your local Sieda Community Action office. Applications for all other households will start on November 1st.

The 2020-2021 LIHEAP is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Iowa Department of Human Rights/DCAA. It is established to help qualified low-income Iowa homeowners and renters fund a portion of their primary heating costs. However, this program is not designed to pay a household’s total energy costs. The program will provide supplemental assistance based on several factors. Those factors include total household income (view below), household size, dwelling type, and type of heating fuel, among others.

Subsequently, LIHEAP customers will need to furnish some form of identification (ex: Social Security Cards) for everyone in the household. Additionally, a copy of their most recent heating and electric bill. As well as proof of all household members’ gross income for the past 30 calendar days, the most recent 12 months, or for the past calendar year (ex: 2019 Federal Taxes).

You will not be able to apply online until November 1st. Please call ahead of time to set up an appointment. Follow this link for the nearest Sieda Neighborhood Resource Centers in these seven counties; Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, Van Buren, and Wapello.

Eligibility for participation is established according to the following federal income guidelines:

** All income will be annualized. Income will be collected for a 30-day period – count back 30 calendar days, including date of application.
