Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) applications for households with at least one person that is elderly (60+) or disabled will begin Friday, October 1st. Please visit or call your local Sieda Community Action office for more information. Applications for all other households will open up on November 1st.

The 2021-2022 LIHEAP has been established to help qualified low-income Iowa homeowners and renters. A one-time payment will pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season. The assistance amount is based on household income, household size, type of heating fuel, and type of housing.

Heating assistance (LIHEAP) applications will be accepted online or by calling your nearest Sieda Neighborhood Resource Centers to start the process. We have Sieda locations in seven counties; Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, Van Buren, and Wapello. However, appointments can be made until April 30th, 2022. If you do not live in one of our seven counties, please click here to find your county’s Iowa Community Action Agency.

Households may complete your application online during the application season. A new account may need to be created for the 2021-2022 heating season.

You can apply online when it opens on October 1st:

Whether your household applies online or through a Sieda Center, you will need verification of gross household income. Income will be needed for everyone over 18-years-old for the past 30 days or 2020 Federal Taxes. As well as the home’s most recent gas and electric bill. We will also need to verify Social Security numbers for all household members.

If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact the Sieda office in your county or call the main office at 641-682-8741 extension 151.
