For Christmas 2022, Sieda Community Action clients living in Mahaska County were supported through two programs. Both the Sieda Mahaska County Children’s Christmas and the Oskaloosa Police Department Giving Tree. To clarify, families that applied to Sieda were also provided to the Oskaloosa Police Department. Sieda services the other children with the help of many great businesses and groups. No child is left without. Sieda funds the gifts of children not adopted.

People and businesses in our counties have shown again why Sieda is blessed to serve our communities. For 2022, Sieda Mahaska County Resource Center provided gifts to 252 children ages 0 to 18. With the community’s help, we assisted 102 families with toys and items to go under the Christmas tree. Numbers that have gone done over the years.

Winter is a difficult time of year. Heating costs, winter clothing, and providing for your children during Christmas are hard on all families. Especially for the 387 families with children under the age of 18 in Mahaska County below the 100% poverty line [1]. Sieda’s Christmas program follows the LIHEAP (Heating Assistance) guidelines, allowing us to help families below the 200% poverty level. Meaning even more families can get the help they need. In 2021 Sieda’s programs in Mahaska County helped 660 children and 290 children’s families [2].

Thank You

Most importantly, many great people and businesses in the area helped with gifts. Thank you for adopting families and children this year. We appreciate all the people from businesses, groups, and the community who gave to others. You are a generous and incredible community, and we are very appreciative.

Additional thanks to the Central United Methodist Church for opening their doors again for Sieda to distribute gifts. And the Oskaloosa Police Department Giving Tree adoption of children and their protection of our community.
