Sieda Community Action’s Housing Stabilization Unit has an opening for a Community Action Program Specialist I (CAPS I). This position will be based in our Ottumwa office but is primarily a traveling position with travel required three or more days per week within Sieda’s seven county service area. Mileage reimbursement is included in the compensation package.
Major programs provided through this position include; LIHEAP, crisis utility assistance, resource and referral assistance and special projects throughout the year. The CAPS I performs a variety of tasks, requiring several different skills, with time management and prioritization required. Assesses client needs and collects data from clientele to be entered into the Client System data base. Makes appropriate referrals to available resources within the community to assist with identified barriers. Works with local utility companies to advocate on behalf of clientele. Arranges approved financial assistance to assist clientele in maintaining needed household utilities such as electricity, propane, natural gas and water. Maintains accurate, complete and current files for clientele served. Assist the Assistant Housing Director in providing temporary assistance in all seven counties in the event of an emergency, staff vacancy or other disruption to normal delivery services. Occasionally required to provide home visits to those clients seeking services that may be disabled or home bound. Minimum High School graduate or GED required. Minimum two years experience working with low income families/individuals required. Must have a valid Iowa Driver license and proof of insurance. This is a Full-Time position with benefits.
