Sieda Community Action’s Housing Stabilization Unit has an opening for a Community Action Specialist I (CAPS I-Traveling) at our Wapello County location in Ottumwa. The CAPS I is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Neighborhood Resource Center. Major programs are; LIHEAP, crisis utility assistance, resource and referral assistance and special projects throughout the year. This is primarily a travelling position that will be based at the Wapello County office with frequent travel required to other Sieda Resource Center locations.
This position performs a variety of tasks, requiring several different skills, with time management and prioritization required. Assesses client needs and collects data from clientele to be entered into the Client System data base. Makes appropriate referrals to available resources within the community to assist with identified barriers. Works with local utility companies to advocate on behalf of clientele. Arranges approved financial assistance to aid clientele in maintaining needed household utilities such as electricity, propane, natural gas and water. Maintains accurate, complete and current files for clientele served in each county. Assist the Assistant Housing Director in providing temporary assistance in all seven counties in the event of an emergency, staff vacancy or other disruption to normal delivery services. Occasionally required to provide home visits to those clients seeking services that may be disabled or home bound. Minimum two years working experience required. Must have a valid Iowa Driver license and proof of insurance. This is a Full-Time position with benefits.
