We’re proud to present Sieda Community Action’s Sneaker Soirée, our annual banquet and auction. It will be an evening of music, sneakers, speakers, and fun all while raising money for an awesome cause. Sieda Community Action has been here helping families pay utility bills; educating children; improving home energy efficiency; providing school supplies, holiday gifts, and meals; and fighting poverty for nearly 60 years. With your help, we will be here for years to come.
Be comfortable doing good! Dig out your favorite sneakers, tennis shoes, skaters, or casual shoes for Sieda’s Sneaker Soirée. A skirt with Skechers; chinos and Chucks; your best suit plus Superstars; anything goes. Just wear your favorite athletic shoes and help Sieda change the lives of low-income families in Iowa.
Cam Steinbach is this year’s musical guest. Cam is a very talented guitar player and vocalist who will engage you all with his mixture of rock and blues. Cam, a Southeast Iowa native, performs throughout the region and is sure to make our annual banquet a very special night. We’ll also have a very special Best Sneaker Contest! Enter the day of the Soirée in one of four categories.
- Most Unusual – The sneakers that are different from anyone else’s in the room.
- Most Colorful – The more colors the better.
- Best Duo – You’ve got to coordinate; pair up with a partner to create the best sneaker combo.
- Rattiest – Did you just throw on your old running shoes or dig out your mowers? No problem. The most beat up pair wins.
Last year Sieda Community Action helped well over 7,000 low-income families (comprised of more than 15,000 individual family members) through our multifaceted approach to addressing the causes and conditions of poverty in Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, Van Buren, and Wapello Counties. This approach emphasizes the core components of education, economic support, and health and well-being.
At Sieda Community Action, we believe a strong educational foundation is key to long-term success. There is a significant correlation between educational attainment and poverty, and Sieda emphasizes education through our Head Start preschool program, Parents as Teachers, Maternal and Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting program, Family Development and Self Sufficiency, and Substance Abuse Prevention and Education.
We believe the basic needs of individuals and families must be met before they are able to focus their energy or assets on gaining the skills and resources to become self-sufficient. Economic supports provide an important scaffold for individuals as they work to move from poverty toward financial stability. Sieda provides economic support to families in our service area through programs like the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, the Tenant Based Rental Assistance program, Diaper Pantry, food bags, and utility crisis services.
We believe physical health and mental health have a major impact on a family’s ability to thrive. Adverse childhood experiences, substance use and abuse, and physical and mental illness threaten families’ ability to be self-sufficient. Sieda Community Action addresses health and well-being through our Behavioral Health and Treatment Services, Head Start, Family Services, Seeds of Hope, and Child and Adult Care Food Program.
The banquet and silent auction will be Friday, April 19 at Bridge View Center in Ottumwa. All are invited to attend.

Tickets are $45 each or two for $80. You can also get a Table for Four for $155 or a Full Table (eight guests) for $300. Tickets are currently available online, at Mahaska Drug in Oskaloosa or at one of these Sieda Resource Centers:
