This year the World No Tobacco Day will be held on May 31, 2020. The World Health Organization (WHO) will be speaking out this year to empower and educate youth and others on the dangers of tobacco use. Protecting our youth is the main focus this year. WHO encourages all young people to join the fight and become the first tobacco-free generation.

As a Tobacco Prevention Specialist in Sieda’s Behavioral Health and Treatment Services Unit, I continually look for opportunities to educate youth and others on the facts and dangers of tobacco/vaping use. Partnering with our Schools in Appanoose, Davis, Mahaska, and Wapello counties. I do several classroom tobacco/vaping presentations for youth. In addition, to share information on the Quitline of Iowa, that provides a free support line for anyone 13 and up.

The Quitline of Iowa launched a new text support line designed for youth and they can enroll by texting (Start My Quit) to 855.891.9989 or they can also call. The Quitline of Iowa will work with youth to help them develop a successful personalized quit plan.
