The American Cancer Society (ACS) released an update to its 2013 lung cancer screening guidelines on Nov. 1, that guide’s screening for healthcare providers and their patients who are at high risk for lung cancer due to a history of smoking. The newly updated guideline recommends yearly screening for people aged 50 to 80 years old who smoke or formerly smoked with a 20-year or greater pack-year history. Patients can consult with their health provider to determine if lung cancer screening is appropriate for them.
